DAY 1 – Panhandle Plains Museum

As we look forward to our western trip that will feature canyons, mountains and national parks, we’ll visit the Panhandle Plains Museum, a first-class historical museum.

(A) Overnight: Amarillo, TX

DAY 2 – Garden of the Gods

Today we see the stunning and unique views of red rock formations in the Garden of the Gods State Park.

(B,A) Overnight: Colorado Springs, CO

DAY 3 – Denver / Union Pacific Depot

Continuing north, we’ll pass through Denver, the “Mile High City.” Embrace the cowboy spirit at the former home of the Union Pacific Depot, now a National Historic Landmark. While in Cheyenne, watch for the eight-foot tall boot!

(B,D) Overnight: Rock Springs, WY

DAY 4 – Jackson Hole / Covered Wagon Ride

This morning we are off to Jackson! This unbridled western town is the central trading town for the mountain-rimmed valley of Jackson Hole. Later, we’ll travel by covered wagon to a river in Cache Creek Canyon for dinner and entertainment.

(B,D) Overnight: Jackson, WY

DAYS 5 & 6 – Yellowstone National Park / Grand Teton National Park / River Tour / Old Faithful

Two nights in beautiful Yellowstone National Park! Close by is the Grand Teton National Park, where wildlife thrives in the river-bottom country of the Snake River. There’s no better way to enjoy this scenic area than on a gentle float trip along smooth waters with an experienced boatman as our guide. A light lunch is provided. A tour of Yellowstone National Park provides a look at marvelous sights – a waterfall almost twice as high as Niagara, river canyons, mountain lakes and the world-famous geyser, Old Faithful.

Day 5 (B,L,D); Day 6 (B) Overnights: Yellowstone National Park, WY

DAY 7 – East Gate / Trolley Tour

We’ll have more time to take photos, as we leave Yellowstone through the scenic East Gate. Our destination is Sheridan, voted #1 Western Town in America and where Buffalo Bill Cody was a frequent visitor. A narrated historic trolley tour will fill us in on the highlights.

(B,D) Overnight: Sheridan, WY

DAYS 8 & 9 – Mt. Rushmore / Crazy Horse / Badlands / Minuteman Missile Site

Our two-night stay in Rapid City will include the Norwegian Chapel in the Hills, Crazy Horse Monument (a work in progress) and of course, Mount Rushmore National Monument, where four of our great presidents have been rendered in stone. We’ll also see the stark beauty of the Badlands National Park, recognized by President Roosevelt as a national monument in 1939. A visit to the Minuteman Missile Historic Site gives insight into the “top secrets” of the Cold War.

Day 8 (B,D) Day 9 (B) Overnights: Rapid City, South Dakota

DAY 10 – Golden Spike Tower

Get a panoramic view of the world’s largest rail yard from the eighth floor observation deck of the Golden Spike Tower. The massive yard handles 15,000 railroad cars every 24 hours!

(B,D) Overnight: North Platte, Nebraska

DAY 11 – Great Platte River Road Archway / Prairie Rose Chuckwagon Supper

We continue our drive across the magnificent plains of Nebraska, stopping along the way at the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument, representing the gateway to the West.
