Itinerary
Departing Dallas/ Ft. Worth Metroplex
Day 1 – Tucumcari, New Mexico
Nestled on
historic Route 66, Tucumcari welcomes us for the first night of our scenic
trip.
(D) Overnight: Tucumcari, New Mexico
Day 2 & 3 - Grand Canyon
We’ll take a walk
through history as we make a lunch stop in Albuquerque’s
Old Town, founded in 1706. After strolling the Plaza, we depart for our two
nights in Flagstaff.
The next morning, the grandeur of Grand Canyon is a sight to behold on the newly
renovated Hermit’s Rest Road, originally
used by stagecoaches. Stops will be made to view and take pictures of the
one-mile deep Canyon. Lunch will be provided at one of the Canyon lodges before
returning to Flagstaff.
Day 2 (B,D); Day 3 (B,L) Overnights: Flagstaff, Arizona
Day 4 – Route 66 Historic Museum
The Powerhouse Visitor Center in Kingman will give us a look back at
the history of the “Mother Road”,
Route 66. Dinner and overnight accommodations will be in Barstow,
on the western edge of the Mojave Desert.
(B,D) Overnight: Barstow, California
Days 5 & 6 – Yosemite National Park
Leaving the
interstate at Merced, we look forward to two
peaceful nights in Yosemite National Park. This location was brought back by
popular demand and a guided tour will reveal such fascinating sights as El Capitan, Bridal Veil Falls and Yosemite Falls. One of the oldest parks in
the U.S.,
it is known for its grand collection of waterfalls and forests that are filled
with groves of ancient giant sequoias.
Day 5 (B); Day 6 (No Meals)
Overnights: Fish Camp, CA
Day 7 – California State
Capitol
Leaving
the wonders of Yosemite behind, we set out for the northern California
city of Yreka, stopping for a look-see at the California State Capitol Building in Sacramento.
(B) Overnight: Yreka, California
Day 8 – Crater Lake
Crossing the
border into Oregon,
we stop at the Park Headquarters of
Crater Lake National Park to learn more about and catch a glimpse of the
unique lake.
(B,D) Overnight: Hood River, Oregon
Day 9 – Multnomah Falls
Following the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Highway,
we stop to view Multnomah
Falls, truly a
sight to behold! Dropping 620 feet from its origin, it is the second-tallest,
year-round waterfall in the nation.
(B) Overnight Seattle, Washington
Days 10 & 11 – Vancouver/Victoria/Butchart
Gardens
In Vancouver we’ll see two of
its outstanding parks: Stanley Park and
Queen Elizabeth Park, as well as Gastown,
home of the famous steam clock. The next day a ferry transports us to
British-flavored Victoria. Our lunch stop is the botanical showcase, Butchart Gardens, known the world over for its acres of
beautifully landscaped flowers and plants. In the picturesque harbor area,
don’t miss the Parliament Building and the Provincial Museum.
Day 10 (B,D); Day 11 (L) Overnights: Vancouver, British
Columbia
Day 12 – Farming Areas
Kamloops in the Thompson Valley
and Salmon Arm in the Shuswap Lake
Recreation area are on our route today. These fertile grounds are home to berry
and dairy farms, cheese plants and wineries.
(B,D) Overnight: Revelstoke, British Columbia
Day 13 – Banff National Park
After a stop in Lake Louise, we head to Banff National Park. This area features some of the most
awe-inspiring scenery in the world and is known as the “Alps of North America.”
(B,D) Overnight: Banff, Alberta
Day 14 – Glacier National Park
After a final
look around Banff, we leave Canada and travel to another national park in
the United States – Glacier National Park
where we stay at a park lodge within the park.
(B) Overnight: Glacier National Park, Montana
Day 15 – Going-to-the-Sun Road
From East
Glacier, we travel aboard the park’s “red buses” to the west side of the park,
thrilling to the crossing of Logan’s
Pass on the Going-to-the-Sun Road. Our motorcoach meets us for transportation
out of the park, to follow the highway that hugs the scenic Flathead Lake’s
shoreline.
(B,D) Overnight: Missoula, Montana
Day 16 – Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument
Before arrival
at our overnight stop, we make a somber stop at the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument to hear more about the
history we’ve heard so much about.
(B) Overnight: Sheridan, Wyoming
Day 17 – Spearfish Canyon
The Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway, located
in the northern Black Hills, is unique because
the view is always close to the visitor. The narrow canyon walls rise sharply
skyward and a forest of spruce, pine, aspen, birch, and oak covers much of the
hillsides.
(B,D) Overnight: Spearfish Canyon, South
Dakota
Day 18 – Mt. Rushmore
Sightseeing will include a visit to Mt. Rushmore
and a stop at the Wall Drugstore, if
you want a reasonably priced cup of coffee.
(B) Overnight: North Platte, NE
Day 19 – Smoky Hill Bison Farm
Traveling
through mid-America, we stop for an early dinner at the Smoky Hill Bison Farm, where they state, no fat to drain off when
you cook their grass-fed buffalo meat.
(B,D) Overnight: Wichita, Kansas
Day 20 – Homeward Bound
We’ve seen so
much of America the
Beautiful, plus our neighbor to the North, Canada, and their not to be missed
natural wonders.
