Itinerary
Departing Dallas/ Ft. Worth Metroplex
Day 1 – Annie Riggs Museum/ Fort Stockton
Today we travel west through vast ranch lands with oil drilling rigs dotting the landscape. This evening, we’ll visit the Annie Riggs Memorial Museum and have a tour and dinner at historic Fort Stockton.
(D) Overnight: Fort Stockton, Texas
Days 2 – Big Bend National Park/ Chisos Basin
We strike out toward the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend National Park, with its untamed paradise of colorful mountains, abundant variations of cactus and array of wildlife. We’ll explore the Chisos Basin, where the terrain varies from deep canyons at sea level to the peaks of mountains over 7,000 feet tall.
Day 2 (B) Overnight: Big Bend National Park, Texas
Day 3 – Big Bend State Park/ Lajitas Golf Resort
Our route takes us through more fantastic scenery, unlike any other in Texas. We’ll explore the outskirts of Big Bend Ranch State Park, pausing for a picnic lunch among fantastic scenery. Another stop is the Terlingua “ghost town.” Not really a ghost town any longer, this abandoned mining camp is a wonderful place for viewing the rocky hillside. Our remote getaway in the heart of the Chihuahuan Desert is the Lajitas Golf Resort and Spa, offering luxuries you wouldn’t expect in the heart of Big Bend Country.
(B,L) Overnight: Lajitas, Texas
Day 4 – Fort Davis/ McDonald Observatory
Leaving the Park, we travel to Fort Davis for an evening at Prude Ranch. Arrangements have been made to visit to the McDonald Observatory. It’s easy to imagine yourself floating in space, viewing celestial objects, seeming to be able to reach out and touch them.
(B,D) Overnight: Fort Davis, Texas
Day 5 – Homeward Bound
We make our way back home with memories of the vast ruggedness and diverse terrain of West Texas.
